Working with Mauve Carpet...

Linda and I were asked to do a staging project in Bellevue…We were told the condo was dated; but they had put in new carpet and kitchen appliances. That was a big plus. The location was ideal, and so was size, amenities, etc. (There was a park across the street, and walking distance to a variety of shops, and a mall. As well, because it was an older complex in an older area…unlike the newer modern complex next door, people weren’t stacked on top of each other, with tiny balconies either. Each condo had tall ceilings, small front yards, and a private inside patio.)

I arrived on my own, the next day. I was expecting something in the greige arena for the carpet. I certainly didn’t expect mauve! There wasn’t any turning back; so after assessing the rooms and space, I started forming ideas and colour palettes. I decided to apply it in a more contemporary/natural feel, with just a touch of vintage glam. I would do that with using more feminine fabrics, and shimmery objects; but also use blacks and greys to ground everything, and in some of the more subtle antique pieces . Black/grey/gold/silver/mauve would work together in a palette…but I also incorporated complementary colours, as it evolved. Later that evening I went onto Pinterest too, wanting to get some examples of what could picture in my mind’s eye.

Linda and I work exceptionally well together; and we are able to bounce ideas off of each other, almost without much verbal communication. We usually meet the next day or two, with ideas and samples of things that we researched or purchased. This is in excess to what we pull from storage…Being able to use my beloved sunburst mirror, as well as some favourite Pier 1 peacock pillows, was a joy.

The entire project consists of some pretty full, and sometimes very long days. We were pleased with what we created within the parameters of the budget given to us. The Selling Agent was very happy too, and the end result was a sale just a few days after the Open House. We then just had to wait for finalization, so we could empty the place again!

Late night finishing off the master bedroom. Tweaking the little details would wait till morning.
