The Colour Coach - Decorating, Organizing, Downsizing, Staging, Real Estate
Organizing/Downsizing:

Re-purpose, re-direct, re-focus...

It can feel overwhelming when faced with boxes of photos or memorabilia that may have been inherited...At times too, one likes the idea of scrap-booking, but come to find the process too tedious.  Family history research can also fall into that category, as it needs much time & patience to complete...Further more, if you have a Loved One with a medical condition that causes memory impairment, there may not be spare time or energy to capture the wealth of stories that you want and need to share with family and friends later.

Organizing is not just clearing clutter, and making a space look pretty.  There are background details that need to be taken care of.

After a loss (job, move, divorce, etc.) or death, it can include sorting through personal items.  It can also include  finding resources to assist in finishing a project, getting someone to help pack or move, or organizing for an Estate Sale...or just  being creative with what to keep.  It might mean helping organize papers, files and bills too.  (Please see the photos under "Decorating.")

I use the patience and customer service provided by my health care background (both hands on patient care & administrative/secretarial), along with my education in art, psychology, and journalism to provide a means of helping clients tackle their organizing needs surrounding a transition.

I am careful to keep an eye for detail, but I also provide a sensitive--yet objective--sounding board when needed.

As mentioned on my Home page, consults can be done in person or virtually. We can use the phone, email, and Skype in either process.

- This Seattle customer had me help her empty and re-organize her garage...It took a few days of hard work, and fortunately she had a large yard to sort and purge with; but we managed to get it under control. :0)

~ After much sorting & purging, one 93 yr. old client (who finally moved to Assisted Living!) discovered vintage clothing & sweaters that held important memories.  Yet, they were stashed away in boxes in the garage & closets...

I took some of the vintage fabric, deconstructed and combined them with modern pieces, and created a quilt.  Some of the sweaters which held special stories, were turned into felted purses, re-knitted into scarves & mittens--and given as special gifts to family.

This diaper bag, is from a cashmere sweater and vintage felt pieces.  The felted flowers were purchased.

~ Another client in Bellevue, had 100 years of photographs & memorabilia from their parents & husband's family in both a storage unit & house. (It's very common to put things away after a death, with the idea of going through it later. Yet, then it can be stored away for years!) The family was overwhelmed, and honestly most of them wanted to throw it all out. But, the daughter asked to see if anything could be preserved...

Over a year later, with LOTS of work by them & myself, these were turned into several volumes of scrapbooks (with a color coded table-of-contents & a main index--for each), framed photos, shadow boxes, etc.

Afterwords, the family marveled at what took place. They realized that a part of their heritage and legacy could have been lost forever. These scrapbooks held testimonies of international travel, the history of the farmland their parents owned when they came to America, and community service & military accomplishments published in old newspapers we found.
